Summary:

 

The job of a general maintenance worker will provide repair and maintenance of all district facilities to ensure that all students, staff, and the community are provided a safe, attractive, clean, and healthy environment for learning and work. 



Qualifications:

Education:

 

High School Diploma or GED preferred

1 – 3 years experience preferred

Valid Texas Drivers License

 

Other Skills and Abilities:


  1. Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures. 

  2. Working knowledge of and ability to operate power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, welder (gas and electric air), concrete mixer, mower, weed trimmer, blower, edger, and garden tools. 

  3.  Ability to work independently. 

  4. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

  5. Ability to work under extreme conditions - temperatures can get to +100 F.

  6. Ability to work under direct sunlight for long periods of time.

  7. Ability to bend, stoop, and twist throughout the day.


 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Repair


  1. Repair and maintenance district facilities, including repairing woodwork, replacing electrical


switches, fixtures and motors; painting, repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures, light bulbs, air filters and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.


  1. Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.   

  2. Detect and report major repairs needed on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.

  3. Complete repairs as requested on work orders.

  4. Maintaining and mowing lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf and irrigation of district grounds.

  5. Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.

  6. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.

  7. Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as requested.

  8. Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.

  9. Install ceiling and flooring materials.

  10. Responsible for buildings quality control. Inspects facilities and work areas to eliminate deficiencies and improve facilities.

  11. Inspect buildings for cleanliness. Make schedule adjustments to provide clean facilities.


 

Driving

13.       Operate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.

 

Safety

14.       Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.

15.       Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

16.       Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.

17.       Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

 

Other

18. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

19. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.

20. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

Overseeing custodial staff.
